Demi Lovato Slams Disney Over Eating Disorder Joke
While she's made a commendable recovery after receiving treatment earlier this year, Demi Lovato isn't in the mood to take jokes about eating disorders just yet.
The "Skyscraper" singer voiced her utter disappointment in Disney after the Disney Channel show "Shake It Up" saw a character make the comment, "I could just eat you up, well, if I ate."
In response, Miss Lovato tweeted on Friday (December 23),"What are we promoting here? #notfunnyATALL. I find it really funny how a company can lose one of their actress' from the pressures of an EATING DISORDER and yet still make [a] joke about [it]."
Taking notice of Lovato's reprimand, the network responded by announcing plans to pull the episode in which Demi referred to (along with an installment of 'So Random' which also mentioned eating disorders).
Of the move to pull the criticized episode, Disney's Twitter account @DisneyChanelPR messaged, "It's NEVER our intention to make light of eating disorders!"
